LONGVIEW, Texas (KLTV) - The East Texas Regional Airport Director offered a free lunch on Friday for airport employees during the government shutdown.

Director Max Tovar organized a free meal for the employees while TSA and air traffic control continue to work despite not being paid.

Tovar explained that historically, each quarter, employees get together to have a luncheon but this time it is special due to the government shutdown.

“We just kind of came together and wanted to do a little bit of a thank you meal for them for coming,” Tovar said. “They come to work every day with a smile. They do their jobs, they’re essential employees. And they’re not getting paid.”

Tovar said despite not getting paid each employee is working hard to serve the community.
