KTRE 9 News in Lufkin is reporting that a Jasper man died in the Angelina County Jail late Thursday night.

The report said 54-year-old Tony Jerome Irvine had spent several days in a hospital where he was sedated. After sedation ended, the report said Irvine became agitated and aggressive and demanded to be returned to the jail, and he also removed medical equipment that was attached to his body.

After arrival back in the jail, the report said within minutes Irvine’s condition quickly deteriorated and he became unresponsive. Jail staff administered CPR but could not revive him and he was pronounced dead.

Irvine was being held in the Angelina County Jail as he waited for transfer to state prison to serve a one year sentence for felony theft.
