BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Millions of families struggling with delayed SNAP benefits are getting some unexpected help from a Brooklyn-based tech company.
The Propel app, founded by CEO Jimmy Chen, is giving emergency cash to households waiting for food assistance to arrive amid ongoing government disruptions.
“In the middle of one of the biggest food benefit disruptions in recent memory, millions of families are turning to an app called Propel for help,” Chen explained. “We help people to check their balances and improve their financial health by saving money on things. Our app is used by more than 5 million families across the country each month, about 400,000 people in New York state and 200,000 families in New York City.”
