HAMPTON – If ever the Winnacunnet High School football team needed a long-sustained drive it was on its first possession of the second half in Friday’s Division I first-round playoff game against storied rival Exeter.
The ninth-seeded Blue Hawks took the second-half kickoff and marched 68 yards on seven plays, cutting Winnacunnet’s lead to just seven points thanks to Max Corzatt's 28-yard touchdown run.
Both Winnacunnet head coach Ryan Francoeur and Exeter head coach Bill Ball thought a stop by the Blue Hawks on the ensuing Warrior drive would shift the momentum back to the visitor's sideline.
Eighth-seeded Winnacunnet, with 9:18 left in the third quarter, took over at its own 7-yard line, protecting a 21-14 lead with 93 yards in front of them.
