Residents are up in arms after a colossal warehouse, referred to as a "mega shed", was built in their village without consultation, utilising a contentious rule from 1957.

Pilning locals in South Gloucestershire have labelled the 500,000 sqft structure a "monstrosity" that mars the landscape, obstructs their views and even blocks out sunlight.

The "stadium-sized" facility, standing at 20m (65ft) high, has been likened to a "large prison" or something out of "War of the Worlds", and is floodlit throughout the night.

Villagers claim they were not consulted about the construction of the "industrial distribution hub" due to an old planning consent dating back to 1957.
