Wayne Valley, the No. 12 seed in the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 tournament, defeated No. 4 seed Montville in a shootout to advance to the sectional semifinal following a thrilling finish in Montville.
After the teams played to a scoreless draw through 100 minutes, the contest went to penalty kicks to decide a winner.
The Indians won the shootout 4-3, booking a spot in a sectional semifinal for the first time since 2022. Goalkeeper Sebastian Sianozecki recorded 14 saves in a remarkable effort.
Montville’s season ends with a 15-5-1 record. The Mustangs’ 15 wins are the most in a season since 2019.
Wayne Valley (10-7-2) continues its Cinderella run with a semifinal meeting against the winner of No. 1 Ramapo and No. 8 Fort Lee.
