Part of the M1 has been closed after a car crashed into a barrier and landed on its side. National Highways confirmed that the road was closed in South Yorkshire, between Junction 30 for Balborough, and Junction 31 for Aston.

Emergency services headed to the scene following the collision at about 5.30am. The police, fire and ambulance service are currently in attendance, the authorities confirmed.

Recovery is taking place at the scene

The road remains closed northbound between J30 and J31 following the collision. Recovery and road surface clean up works are being undertaken at the scene, National Highways confirmed.
