Yorkshire is packed with many villages , in all shapes and sizes. Yet there’s one which stands out from the rest.
Located on the outskirts of Bradford, Saltaire does feel rather different from other villages where you’d expect to find quaint cottages, winding streets, picturesque churches and a village hall.
Instead, Saltaire’s spacious roads are set out in a neat grid formation and are lined with tidy rows of terraces. There are several grand buildings, including Victoria Halls and the impressive Salts Mill - which hints at the village’s origins.
In fact Saltaire is a Victorian model village, built by Sir Titus Salt, a manufacturer who wanted to create a home with his workers away from the slums of industrial Bradford.
