Over 110 flights were canceled at Florida airports on Friday, Nov. 7, and the number of delays increased as airlines across the nation started releasing planned flight cancellations as ordered by the FAA amid the ongoing government shutdown .
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced cuts to flight operations of 4% at 40 major U.S. airports starting today and gradually increasing to 10% over a week. Duffy said the cuts are necessary to keep flying safely as air traffic controllers are under increased pressure and have gone without pay since Oct. 1.
Flight cuts could be increased to 15% or even 20% given the pressure on controllers if the shutdown continues, Duffy said Friday.
