A death investigation was opened after an unidentified woman was found unresponsive overnight at a fire in the Washington Park neighborhood, Chicago police said.

Officers were called shortly after 5 a.m. to a building in the 5300 block of South Calumet Avenue where Chicago firefighters were extinguishing a fire. An unidentified woman was discovered unresponsive and was pronounced dead.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, and a death investigation was opened pending results of an autopsy scheduled Saturday afternoon
