PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Due to the government shutdown, the U.S. Centers Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is unable to update the flu dashboard, which shows numbers across the country. However, Virginia health leaders work to update the latest numbers every Friday.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has state-level surveillance to update their numbers. Even though it relies on the CDC for national and regional awareness, it has a relationship with neighboring states to communicate the illnesses spreading there.
