SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. —
A proposal to change the city seal of South Lake Tahoe, California, has sparked debate over a mistake made 60 years ago.
When the city was founded in 1965, it involved the inaccurate depiction of the Lake Tahoe border on the seal.
During Tuesday's city council meeting, the proposal to correct the seal's error was met with resistance, including an emotional response from Susan Blankenship, the city clerk and custodian of the seal.
"The city seal has stood as the link between our past and present. It has marked every chapter of our city's history," Blankenship said, fighting back tears. "And remains a powerful emblem of who we are."
