Former MLA Jinny Sims said the first thing she thought when she heard a Surrey, B.C., café was shot at for a third time this year was: "Not again."
"Not a surprise, but kind of a resolute acceptance," she told CBC's .
Police believe the crime was related to extortion, an issue that is increasingly affecting the Lower Mainland's South Asian community.
Sims — now a radio host at Swift 1200 AM in Surrey — stressed the threat of extortion is looming large over residents and said she hopes governments will do more to address the problem.
