MONTICELLO — The Alexandria football team kept inching closer to the goal line with the season on the line.
However, Spring Lake Park had the final answer.
The Panthers' goal-line stop on the Cardinals' two-point conversion attempt was the difference, taking home a 14-13 victory in overtime in the Class 5A state quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov.8, at Monticello High School, moving to 11-0 on the season.
Having entered the matchup having outscored opponents 226-58 in the opening half of play this season, Alexandria was forced to punt on its opening drive as Spring Lake Park neutralized the Cardinals ground game throughout the first quarter, with Brody Berg’s 13-yard carry being the biggest run play on offense.
