Extra point block propels St. Mary's
Last year’s selection day heartbreak left Deer Valley determined to not only make the 4A playoffs, but to win once they got there.
This gritty team with only 13 seniors and heavy in season injury losses clinched the playoff berth and a region title despite being outscored by 29 points on the season. Their second goal was one had away.
Deer Valley (6-5) senior running back Adan Sanchez scored his third touchdown of the night to draw the Skyhawks within a point of #16 St. Mary’s with 3:23 left. Deer Valley lined up to go for two, but Knights coach Jose Lucero looked at the formation and called the time out.
