A Van Buren County man was arrested at a Hot Springs hotel on Saturday in the killing of his father, who was found dead in his home near Shirley on Thursday, the Arkansas State Police said in a news release.

Brian Branscum, 31, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Russell Branscum, 68, state police said.

The Van Buren County sheriff's office personnel contacted state police Thursday after the elder Branscum was found dead at his home at 14114 Arkansas 110, the release says. The residence is about 50 miles north of Conway.

Special agents from the state police's Criminal Investigation Division identified the son as a suspect and tracked him to the Hot Springs hotel, the release says.

The body was transported to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy, the release says.
