BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A recently released survey of consumer sentiment indicates consumers are now expressing their concern for potential negative consequences on the economy as the government shutdown continues.

We stopped by the UAB Collat School of Business Friday afternoon to talk with Ben Meadows, Assistant Professor of Economics. We asked Meadows for his reaction to the results of the University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers, which showed that the Consumer Sentiment Index fell to 50.3 in the month of November.

“These three factors, right, government shut down, inflation, and higher import costs, all make sense that consumers might be a little wary, if not pessimistic about holiday shopping,” he noted.
