Hamilton Tiger-Cats fans will have to wait another year.
Again.
The Montreal Alouettes kicked a last-second field goal to win the East Final 19-16 on Saturday and end the Ticats’ season in front of a sold out Hamilton Stadium.
The win sends the Als to the Grey Cup in Winnipeg next Sunday while the home side’s loss stretches Hamilton’s championship drought to 26 years.
After a slow start — Montreal was ahead 6-3 at halftime as both teams’ defences were playing well and both offences struggled to get going — the Als came out and scored a touchdown on their first possession of the third quarter and eventually built a 16-10 lead.
Hamilton tied it with less than a minute to play but Montreal’s Jose Maltos Diaz hit a 45-yard field goal to win, stunning the 25,399 in attendance.
