UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — With the sun going down in Happy Valley, Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti had a couple hundred fans waiting for him as he exited Beaver Stadium on Saturday.
The Hoosiers' taciturn head coach had a smile on his face for an extended walk back to the team bus on the heels of a 27-24 comeback win over Penn State, a comeback he described as the “most improbable” victory in his career.
There were hundreds of fans clad in crimson and cream lined up against a barricade cheering him on. He posed for a quick photo with one young fan, a decision that opened the floodgates for everyone in the queue.
It was hard to know which was the more unlikely sight — an Indiana coach walking out of Beaver Stadium with a win or Cignetti posing for selfies.
