MADISON, Wis. -- It finally happened. For the first time ever, Luke Fickell got a win against a ranked team as the Wisconsin Badgers' head coach.

The Badgers produced a stunner on Saturday, upsetting No. 23 Washington 13-10 at Camp Randall Stadium to improve to 3-6.

Fickell had to make a big adjustment early in the game after quarterback Danny O'Neil was carted off injured. Ultimately, Fickell landed on true freshman Carter Smith.

With snow falling and conditions becoming slippery, the Badgers pivoted to a more traditional offensive approach. Wisconsin's running game got a chance to truly shine, Smith included.

Gideon Ituka ran for 73 yards and Smith ran for 47 yards including the Badgers' only touchdown.
