SRINAGAR: The Battle of Shalateng, fought on 07 November 1947, stands as a watershed moment in the annals of Indian Military history.

“During the first Indo-Pak War of 1947-48, this decisive engagement saw the gallant soldiers of the Indian Army, in concert with valiant local civilians, repelled the advancing Pakistani raiders and safeguarded the city of Srinagar. Their indomitable courage and sacrifice has few parallels and exposed Pak perfidy,” PRO Defence said in a press release issued here.
