When Richard Stallard heard about a fatal crash on a country road in the little-known community of Boilup, he knew exactly which road the accident occurred on.

The Collie-Changerup Road connects the region of Moodiarrup to the town of Kojonup, 260 kilometres south of Perth.

The road has a marked speed limit of 110 kilometres an hour, but a winding and undulating section advises drivers to slow to 80kph, but only on one side of the road.

Mr Stallard, a retired safety assessor who previously consulted for Main Roads, said having the 80kph warning only signposted in one direction posed a danger to drivers travelling in the opposite direction.
