COLUMBUS, Ohio — Fifty years after the tragedy, one central Ohio playwright is teaming with a local theater to honor the lives lost on the Edmund Fitzgerald’s final voyage.
On Nov. 10, 1975, a storm sank the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald, an American freighter traversing Lake Superior. To mark the 50th anniversary of the loss of the vessel and the lives of the 29 crewmen aboard, the Abbey Theater of Dublin has taken to the stage with the world premiere of “The Witch of November,” a new piece from central Ohio playwright Vidas Barzdukas about the final moments of the colossal laker and her crew.
“One of the reasons why it was so compelling was that, even though the radio was within an arm’s reach away, there was no call for help, there was no Mayday ever issued, no lifeboats were ever launched
