PHOENIX — A man wanted for 117 counts of animal cruelty and who had been on the run for more than four years was arrested by Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Thursday.

Domenic Anthony Asprella, 54, was taken into custody after a standoff that lasted for several hours.

One dog and 39 cats were removed safely from the property. According to a release, most were in good health.

SWAT team utilized during standoff

Deputies arrived at a home near Wickenburg where Asprella was staying in Congress at 7:30 a.m. and maintained a perimeter around the home until he surrendered at around 12:30 p.m.
