Scott Laughton‘s return to the Toronto Maple Leafs‘ lineup was short-lived.

The veteran centre left Saturday’s game against the Boston Bruins with an upper-body injury after taking a big hit from defenceman Nikita Zadorov in the second period.

Laughton was sent to the ice in the Maple Leafs’ zone with around six minutes remaining in the period and did not return. Toronto defenceman Bobby McMann stepped to his teammate’s defence by fighting Zadorov immediately after the play.

Toronto announced shortly after the third period began that Laughton would not return.

The 31-year-old centre had logged 6:13 of ice time before departing with four hits, one shot and four faceoffs won.
