A Chinese fishing vessel capsized off South Korea’s southwestern Gageo Island on Sunday, leaving three crew members missing and two others in cardiac arrest, South Korean Coast Guard officials confirmed. The incident has prompted a joint search operation involving both South Korean and Chinese authorities, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Rescue efforts underway

The Coast Guard said that rescue teams were dispatched immediately after receiving distress signals from the Chinese vessel. The search operation is being coordinated with the Chinese Coast Guard, which has deployed ships to assist in locating the missing crew.

The accident occurred about 85 kilometres northwest of Gageo Island, near waters where Chinese vessels have previously been found operating without authorisation.
