With the LSU offense struggling in a 20-9 loss to No. 4 Alabama on Saturday night, starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was benched with the game still in the balance for the first time this season.
The Tigers inserted sophomore Michael Van Buren in his place in the third quarter. Van Buren finished 5 of 11 passing for 52 yards. He also gained 21 yards rushing on four carries with two sacks removed from his final line.
Afterward, interim coach Frank Wilson was noncommittal about whether or not the Tigers will have a quarterback competition going into their game next week against Arkansas.
