The police union is calling for Canberra's city watch house to be condemned and a new one built after faulty sewerage forced the site to be temporarily closed.
The Australian Federal Police Association (AFPA) said raw sewage "spewed out all over the place" at the facility on London Circuit on Friday night.
"There were several inches of sewage that were spilling out all over the watch house floor," AFPA president Alex Cauana said.
"[It was] making the workplace unsafe not just for the customers inside but also for my members who were working in that location."
Mr Cauana said the Forensic Medical Officer deemed the watch house a health risk and instructed the on-site nurse to work from home, "leaving police to manage detainees without on-site medical support".
