Higley Unified School District faces another $5 million funding cut next school year after voters once again rejected the district’s budget override while a similar ask by Chandler Unified coasted to victory in Tuesday’s election.

However, CUSD’s $271.5 million was barely hanging on as of the Tribune’s Friday deadline, with final unofficial results not expect until over the weekend.

Tuesday’s unofficial results marked the second time in two years that Higley Unified failed to convince enough voters to approve its request for renewing a 15% budget override.

Its failure at the polls last November forced officials to cut $5 million from its current budget. This year the override failed with 55.92% of voters saying “no” to the override. Last year, it failed by less than a percentage point.
