NEW DELHI An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 struck the Andaman Islands at 12:06pm on Sunday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremor was recorded at a depth of 90 kilometres in the Andaman Sea. However, initial data from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) estimated the quake’s magnitude at 6.07 and placed its depth at around 10 kilometres. No casualties or damage have been reported so far. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued cyclone warnings for the islands over the past few weeks, heightening alert levels in the region. (This is a developing story.
