Being a light sleeper has benefits. It's useful to be able to hear if a home invasion is taking place, if a pet is making a mess that demands immediate cleanup, if party-hearty neighbors need a reminder that it's the middle of the night and some of us have to get up in the morning, if a restroom visit is in order, or if there's a single slice of cake in the refrigerator that needs to be consumed in a fit of midnight munchies, leaving guilt to settle in when daylight arrives.
