Pittsburgh could be a great city. But it lacks a coherent vision that would unite its best qualities into a cohesive whole that would excite long-time residents, attract newcomers, respect the city’s heritage and generate a vibrant and dynamic future.
In other words, Pittsburgh is a city of potential, which means it is, and must embrace its identity as, a city of opportunity. The city’s political culture and structures, developed when Pittsburgh had twice its current population, have made it a stifling environment not just for entrepreneurs but ambitious people of all kinds. This must change.
To be clear, being a City of Opportunity is not limited to encouraging business-formation (though this is essential), but encompasses everything necessary for families and individuals to build lives
