Gujarat has emerged as the second-largest state in India in terms of the number of factories, marking a major milestone in its industrial growth story. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the state had 33,311 registered factories in 2023–24, up from 21,282 in 2010–11 — a jump of nearly 56 per cent over 13 years.

Tamil Nadu continues to lead the list with 40,121 factories, while Maharashtra ranks third with 26,539 units.

Industry experts attribute Gujarat’s rise to stable policies, uninterrupted power supply, efficient logistics, and the rapid growth of MSME-driven industrial clusters.
