In the first of two exhibition baseball games in Japan, four University of Hawaii pitchers combined on a no-hitter in Saturday’s 8-1 victory over Waseda.
“Our guys came out and played great,” UH coach Rich Hill said.
Tsubasa Tomii, who was born and reared in Japan, pitched the first two innings for the Rainbow Warriors. Tomii, who transferred from Pima Community College this summer, was the starting pitcher for Japan’s 2017 Little League World Series championship team.
Grant Garman, a transfer from Oakland (Mich.), Hekili Robello and Saul Soto pitched in relief. Robello is a 2022 Hilo High alum who redshirted for UH last year after transferring from Santa Rosa College. Soto is a New Mexico State transfer.
Kamana Nahaku hit a home run for the ’Bows.
UH plays Keio today.
