Hamas says it has handed over the remains of former Israeli soldier Hadar Goldin, who was killed in Gaza during the 2014 conflict between Israel and the militant group.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement the remains were handed over to Israeli forces in the Palestinian territory by the Red Cross.

Israeli officials are now working to formally identify the remains.

The militant group said Mr Goldin's body was found in a tunnel under the southern city of Rafah on Saturday, local time.

Mr Goldin's remains were the only ones held in Gaza from the 2014 conflict between Hamas and Israel - he was killed around two hours after a ceasefire took effect, ending the the conflict.
