Years ago, when I worked in early childhood education, I remember being frustrated with a child who was having a challenging time focusing on getting dressed to go outside to the playground. The other 3-year-olds were ready and beginning to fidget as they waited. I scooped up the child who wasn’t ready yet and grabbed their shoes and jacket, carrying the child and their gear outside. I walked past one of my coworkers who later told me how funny it was to see my scowling face come toward him and see the happy smiling face of the child as we walked away. The child was just happy to be held and have a ride outside!
