COVINGTON, Ky. (WXIX) - Fairhaven Rescue Mission in Covington is a non-profit ministry and men’s homeless shelter that serves meals to those in need every night.
The mission said that a month ago, a busy night was between 50 and 75 people, but amidst the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, a busy night is upwards of 100 people.
“It’s what we do, so no matter what, so no matter what, even with the snap benefits being cut off, we’ll continue to make sure the community eats,” Deshawn Johnson, Weekend Men’s Ministry Associate, said.
No resource is going unused at the Fairhaven Rescue Mission, especially during the last couple of weeks as the federal government shutdown has put a pause on many assistance programs like SNAP.
