No matter what, there are always some conferences that are loaded and some that are weaker.
That’s just the nature of things.
This year, though, there are two that rose to the top.
Heading into the playoffs, there was a lot of debate as to whether or not the Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference deserved five teams to qualify for the postseason. Had that happened, it would have gotten its three guaranteed qualifiers and two of the three wild card spots.
In something of a surprise, the WPIAL committee opted not to take South Fayette and instead chose Armstrong. It was questionable then, but there’s no doubt the Lions played the tougher schedule.
