There have been nine films in the Predator franchise, but the latest one, Predator: Badlands , has set a frachise record at the box office. The film took in $40 million this weekend, which was better than anticipated, and takes the crown from 2004's Alien vs. Predator , which made $38 million in its opening weekend (not adjusted for inflation). Badlands has already made another $40 million internationally, and its good word of mouth and PG-13 rating will likely keep attendance numbers up.
In second place was Regretting You with $7.1 million, a single digit decline from last week's take. So far, it has made $38.5 million domestically and $70.9 million worldwide over three weekends. In third place was another repeat, Black Phone 2 , also in its third weekend, with a $5.3 million
