Flight cancellations climbed to 54 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on the third day of the Federal Aviation Administration’s order to reduce flights at major airports due to the federal government shutdown.
Saturday saw 39 cancellations, according to FlightAware, which tracks flight delays and cancellations. Friday saw 28 cancellations.
Nationwide, air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration employees have been working without pay due to the federal government shutdown, leading to high absenteeism rates.
In response, the FAA directed 40 of the nation’s busiest airports, which include Sea-Tac Airport, to gradually reduce flights, starting with 4% on Friday and reaching 10% by Nov. 14.
