A Saint-Jérôme police officer has been suspended 40 days without pay over a fatal high-speed chase in 2022.
Two people were killed in a fatal crash in Mirabel.
The pursuit started after 22-year-old Tommy Hébert-Heimerl stole a Lotus Esprit on the morning of April 16, 2022.
Despite being stopped by officers at a parking lot, he fled again. Officer Samuel Thériault continued the chase at speeds over 130 kilometres per hour in a zone where the speed limit was 40 kilometres per hour.
The chase ended when Hébert-Heimerl’s car collided with another vehicle carrying three people – including 30-year-old Charles Giroux-Massie who was killed in the resulting fire from the crash – Hébert-Heimerl also died.
An independent investigation cleared Thériault of criminal charges.
