LEHI — A large fire broke out Sunday in the Lehi-Draper area at the Point of the Mountain, sending thick black smoke and flames high into the air as witnesses reported hearing what may have been an explosion.

Minuteman Drive is closed at Marion Vista Drive due to the fire response, Draper police said on social media. Southbound traffic is blocked on Minuteman Drive from that intersection, they said.

Photos and videos from the scene show a structure under construction fully engulfed in flames near a residential neighborhood, with dark plumes of smoke visible for miles.

The fire is burning off Traverse Mountain Boulevard north of Fox Canyon Road, about a mile north of Traverse Mountain Elementary.
