Portland Mayor Keith Wilson on Sunday blasted a proposal by a city councilor to cut more than $4 million from a city program that cleans and removes homeless encampments, telling Portlanders “your neighborhood livability (is) at risk.”
Councilor Angelita Morillo has proposed cutting roughly a quarter of the city budget for the Impact Reduction Program and boosting city funding for housing, food assistance and refugee support. Councilors are expected to consider proposed tweaks to the budget at their meeting on Wednesday.
Wilson told Portlanders in an email newsletter Sunday that cuts would force the city to lay off up to 100 workers, cut services by 75% and leave tons of biohazards on Portland streets.
