An Alabama man accused of shooting at DeKalb County deputies during a car chase stemming from a case involving methamphetamine and $23,000 in alleged drug money has been arrested in Georgia.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden posted Friday that Gary Jody Childers, 50, had been arrested in Floyd County, Ga., after several days of intensive investigation and multiple false leads. Welden wrote that “Childers faces charges in DeKalb County for attempted murder and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, as well as federal charges.”

According to information posted by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on Oct. 29 when a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white van driven by Childers, who had an active warrant for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
