Edinburgh locals may have to pay more in income tax as the SNP Finance Secretary has admitted she may have to once again increase income tax in Scotland should the UK Government hand her a £1bn public spending cut.
Shona Robison has said she may have to “potentially revisit” her tax plans amid reports the Chancellor is eyeing up hikes of her own.
Last month, First Minister John Swinney said he would not increase income tax in his pre-election Budget in January, reports The Daily Record.
His comments are now in doubt over speculation about Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ own tax and spending plans on November 26th.
Reeves is believed to be looking at increasing income tax by 2p in the pound while cutting national insurance by the same amount.
Experts say this could lead to a £1bn cut
