Thanks to social media and other pressures, our young people face a constant barrage of information that leaves their minds reeling.

Over the past decade, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health has documented a decline in overall mental health among Ontario students. In fact, the number of students reporting a moderate-to-serious level of psychological distress has doubled.

Its 2023 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey also reported these troubling numbers:

* 38 per cent rate their mental health as fair or poor

* 37 per cent elevated stress levels

* 19 per cent report harming themselves on purpose

* 18 per cent had serious thoughts about suicide in the past y
