A snap infraction cost the New Orleans Saints a chance to increase their lead against the Carolina Panthers near the end of the first half.

The Saints had the ball at the Panthers 40-yard line when Saints center Luke Fortner was called for a 5-yard penalty during the snap. The penalty took what was a 4th-and-4 for the Saints offense and made it 4th-and-9, leading to the Saints punting with 27 seconds left in the second quarter.

The opportunity for a field goal appeared within reach before the snap infraction, which was called after Fortner had the ball ready to snap but instead pump faked before releasing it as seen in the video below.
