The first significant lake-effect snow for Michigan is delivering some weather doozies today. We already told you we’ve got Thundersnow in the forecast for parts of the state today and tonight. Now, we’ve learned that some rare “snowspouts” have been spotted over Lake Michigan today.

These were seen in the same area where a Gale Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service. Gusty conditions could kick up waves in the southern part of Lake Michigan that reach up to 18 feet - or higher.

But first, the snowspouts. What are these? They’re waterspouts that spin up over the big lakes when conditions are just right - and when it’s snowing.
