This is one of the hardest years in memory when it comes to figuring out my personal Game of the Year. Hollow Knight: Silksong was a triumph, but so far, numerous other games have been released this year.

We've gotten a slew of platformers, roguelikes, adventures, RPGs, and even unique takes like Split Fiction , and the year isn't over yet. This is arguably one of the best years of gaming, ever.

When you look at the top-scoring games of this year on Metacritic, you can see the sheer variety on display. There are indies among triple-A titles, re-releases, brand-new IP, and sequels.
