The New Orleans Saints may have found their next franchise quarterback.
Rookie Tyler Shough left a strong impression in just his second career start, a 17-7 road upset win over the division-rival Carolina Panthers (5-5). The No. 40 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft finished 19-of-27 for 282 yards and two touchdowns.
Solid Tyler Shough outing changes Saints outlook at quarterback
The win marked the first by a Saints rookie quarterback since Dave Wilson (1981), snapping the longest drought in the NFL. Shough significantly outplayed Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, 2023's No. 1 overall pick. He was 17-of-25 for 124 yards and an interception. When accounting for sacks and rushing yards, the Panthers averaged 3.7 yards per Young dropback.
